Reusable Plastic Cups & Food-To-Go Packaging: The Commercials Will Make It The #1 New Normal

Reusable plastic cups & food-to-go packaging

We’re delighted to say that one of our latest features here at Event Cup Solutions is the ability to demonstrate how our reusable plastic cups and food-to-go packaging models are not simply a great, sustainable model for your festival or other large scale event, but that you can also turn it into a profit generating scheme at the same time, so it really does turn into a win-win situation for you.

Not only does your event brand reputation benefit from the positive PR, overall impression and lower carbon footprint generated from the environmental ethos of using the scheme (the Ecologist online looks at this in more detail, for example), but it is also generating hard cash for you at the same time which 100% overcomes the ‘but disposable plastic is the cheapest and commercially viable for us’ argument.

That said, the calculations of how we arrive at this point are worthy of close analysis rather than simply putting a few figures on a blog post, so we would urge you to contact our experts here at Event Cup Solutions to understand the reusable plastic cups model in the detail you will need. However, for the basis of a simple model, let’s assume that we have 30,000 visitors to your festival, all of whom consume, on average, 4 drinks each over the course of your event – a safe and valid assumption.

This equates to you having to purchase 120,000 disposable cups to serve these drinks, at an average cost per cup of around 7p each, so that equates to a cost to you of £8,400. Add to this the fact that after the event, you’ve then got to clean up and dispose of these cups, which equates to a cost of around £600. Overall, therefore, using a disposable scheme will cost you around £9,000.

Our reusable plastic cups model – for both hot and cold drinks – however, enables you to turn this cost into a profit. You can do this either by adding a levy of £1 per ticket or 30p per drink. By doing this, and based on the same assumptions as above, the £1 per ticket levy will generate you a net profit of around £6,500, whilst the 30p levy per drink will generate you a net profit of around £12,500 using our reusable plastic cups scheme.

Again, working on the same visitor numbers but assuming that each visitor will have 2 meals over the course of your festival, then your current single use plastic container model will cost you in the region of £18,500, yet simply by switching to a reusable food-to-go containers model with a £2 levy per ticket or 50p per meal, then you can turn your cost into a net profit of around £10,000.

We’re sure you’ll agree that the numbers on our reusable plastic cups scheme are impressive and exciting. Too good to be true? Well, we have confidence in our numbers and are happy to talk you through the complete model. Our experts here at Event Cup Solutions have a wealth of expertise in this area and will be more than happy to discuss your specific numbers whether this is over the phone or alternatively in an online webinar, for instance – whichever you prefer.

So far, 2020 has proved to be a difficult year, to say the least, and for many event professionals, there’s no time like the present to be looking at what is out there and how you can improve your event or festival.  After all, who is to say that the way you have been doing it all these years is the best way?

So, if you ever thought that by using single use plastic disposable cups and glasses you were saving money, then think again – after all, the commercials behind reusable plastic cups for events really are compelling.  We very much look forward to hearing from you soon.
