Our Best Reusable Event Cup Carbon Footprint

Reusable Event Cup Carbon Footprint

Today we look at the carbon footprint of our reusable event cup.

What is a carbon footprint?

We all understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint in everything we do.  This metaphor is typically defined as the total emissions caused by an individual, event, organisation or product, expressed as a carbon dioxide equivalent.  Obviously, the lower this value, the better.  Why?  Put simply, because the dominant man-made greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide (CO2) which is emitted whenever we burn fossil fuels such as during the manufacturing and distribution process, for instance.

These greenhouse gases contribute to climate change and global warming.  There can, of course, be a multitude of factors involved in this calculation, dependent upon the nature of the product or event, whether you’re talking about the carbon footprint on imported food, or the pair of trainers you’ve just brought.

What is the carbon footprint of a reusable event cup?

When it comes to reusable plastic cups, the principal factors include where and how the raw materials are sourced, the efficiency of the production process, the distance travelled from the production site to the distribution sites, then the distance from the distribution sites to the event sites.  And, of course, when these reusable cups come back into the distribution centres, the efficiency of the washing system to prepare them for the next use.

It’s the combination of all these factors that interplay with each other, not merely the carbon footprint which makes up the total impact on the environment of every one of our business activities.  This is something we recognise and something you can read more about on the our credentials page on the website.

We’ll look at these various elements over the course of the next few blogs.  At this stage, however, it’s important to note that the strategically placed national network of distribution centres provides us with a significant competitive advantage over our competitors when it comes to our overall carbon footprint.

Especially for multi-day events where we are transporting reusable event cups to and from the event venue at both the start and end of each day – for both clean and dirty reusable event cups – then the miles between the venue site and the distribution centre can mount up to a huge amount.  This is why the fact that Event Cup Solutions – with our nationwide distribution centres – is so important in our overall offering.

More distribution centres means fewer miles travelled to and from events, which can only be a good thing.  Add to this the fact that all our reusable cups and glasses are British made and again, we’re not importing from abroad, further reducing our overall carbon footprint.
